Abstract: The authors presented the ALMA (Acoustic Laboratory for Marine Applications) system in various conferences (UACE 2015, 2017, IEEE MTS OCEANS 2018). Dedicated to the measurement and the study of sound waves propagation in fluctuating oceans (mainly shallow and coastal waters), the objective of the system is the evaluation the impact of such process on sonar performance.\nAfter focusing on three at-sea campaigns in shallow (D<100m) waters, some deep-water measurements were conducted in the Gulf of St Florent in 2017 (where sources and receiving array were moored on each side of a canyon) and in various location in the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean in 2018 (where the array was deployed from the research vessel). A companion paper will focus on the description of these at-sea campaigns and the experimental configurations they are associated with. \nIn this paper, the authors will focus on the evidence of the influence of environmental (mainly temperature) fluctuations on the structure of the received acoustic fields. Especially, wavefront distortion is responsible for fluctuations of the direction of arrival of the various acoustic paths. Moreover, tools to discriminate efficiently the different regimes of fluctuations will be presented: for example, the normalized acoustic intensity distribution. This tool might be very helpful in the design of corrective signal processing techniques to mitigate the effect of signal distortions on sonar performance. \nThese studies will be applied to various configurations and campaigns from the ALMA database.\n
