Abstract: QinetiQ both measures and models Target Echo Strength (TES). Mathematical modelling has been used to predict, extend and understand TES measurements.\nPreviously, we have used Finite Element, Boundary Element and Kirchhoff Approximation modelling with some success to predict TES. But Finite Element and Boundary Element modelling become computationally burdensome as frequency increases and Kirchhoff modelling omits important physics. We have thus followed other researchers in investigating the use of Ray acoustics. This has been done using the COTS software COMSOL® and results have been obtained on a range of geometries and targets including simple shapes and some benchmark targets. Results are credible and comparable, although not as computationally inexpensive as hoped. A sphere with an inset corner has been chosen to report on, as it displays features which are typical for a number of shapes. Some notes on differences of TES definition flow from the studies.\n\n
