    Paper ID: 980
    Author(s): Nunn David, Page Keith
    Presenter: Nunn David, Page Keith
    Presentation type: oral
Abstract: Target Echo Strength (TES) has been around for as long as humans have used active sonar. You could argue a lot longer than that. Every object under the water has a TES, but this changes. This presentation aims to be a light-hearted look at the various reasons TES has mattered and why it still matters. An attempt will be made to consider the history of TES, its development, progress and possible future. It will also ask some difficult questions as to how we should approach understanding TES, whether that be by measurement or modelling. This talk will form the introduction to a discussion session at the end of this TES Structured Session, which will invite attendees to openly discuss the issues raised.
