Abstract: In underwater acoustics, high-fidelity simulations of the whole acoustic field from a far-field source to the target, are a cumbersome problem, especially from a computationally point of view. Such simulations require a large computational box and, to guarantee enough resolution, a number of computational points that easily cap O(10^10 ). This requirement is very restricting in terms of memory availability and computational cost. Therefore, the typical strategy is to simulate a small domain containing the region of interest only, i.e. the region with the target. A proper injection of the source, with its reflection and transmission when a different domain is encountered, is needed. The state-of-the-art consists in simulating a larger domain with a coarser lattice, record the signal on a surface, and use such surface as boundary region for a higher-resolution simulation. This numerical workaround is subject to the discretization and to the choice of the surface. A better strategy is to find the analytical solution of the injected, reflected and transmitted wave and directly apply the solution to the boundaries of the domain. In this work, we compute the analytical solutions of those waves and we show their application on problems of interest.
