Abstract: The Target Strength (TS) is an important parameter that determines the detectability of submerged objects using active sonars. It characterises the scattering of the object in the far field. It is a complicated function of the object shape and materials that varies with orientation and frequency.\nIn order to support the validation of TS prediction models and to improve measurement capabilities, scale models are manufactured in the international TESSMEX project and measured by the participants. The scale model M32T/C manufactured in the Netherlands comprises an internal structure that can be surrounded by either a steel hull (M32T) or a composite hull (M32C). \nIn this presentation, the scale model M32T/C is introduced. The measurement setup developed at TNO to measure the TS in the near field in a semi-anechoic bassin is presented. The ability to measure the monostatic TS as a function of aspect is demonstrated. A selection of measurement and simulation results are presented and the agreement is discussed.
