Abstract: Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) based on unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) is widely used in mine countermeasures, underwater mapping, and underwater archaeology. Due to the limited volume of UUVs, there are strict constraints on the volume and power consumption of sonar payloads. This paper presents a compact, low-power SAS parallel processing architecture implemented using FPGA. By employing pipeline techniques and utilizing on-chip shared memory , the FPGA-based system accomplishes real-time image reconstruction, data storage, and data forwarding on the Xilinx Zynq MPSOC. The power consumption of this system is less than 15 watts, and the imaging resolution is 2.5 centimeters.
