Abstract: We investigate the reflections of different orders of seismic waves from a seafloor of canyon type. We illustrate numerically, in 3-D and for different canyon curvatures, the reflections up to the third order, corresponding to triply-reflected waves in the canyon. The caustic, related to the primary reflection, occurs at the location predicted by ray theory, only for narrow canyon widths. Higher-order reflections result from the connection, inside the canyon, of additional reflections from either side of the canyon walls that were previously initiated, below the inflection point of the canyon walls, by the triplication exhibited by the primary reflected wavefront.
