Prof. John Papadakis award for the best paper presented by a young acoustician
Rules for participation
The competition was open to young acousticians under the age of 40 who:
- Presented an oral paper, of which they are the first author.
- Submited a full paper for the UACE2025 proceedings.
- Declared willingness to participate to the competition upon submission of the full paper.
- Candidates for the award were not eligible if they were students (undergraduate or graduate) or PhD candidates..
Winner
For UACE2025, 26 young acousticians participated in the competition.
The winner of the Prof. John Papadakis Award is Dr. Lu Shen from the University of York, for the paper:
"Target detection in an underwater acoustic network: Lake experiment."

Rules for the participation
The competition was open to undergraduate or graduate students (including doctor candidates) under the age of 35 who:
- Presented an oral paper, of which they are the first author.
- Submited a full paper for the UACE2025 proceedings.
- Declared willingness to participate to the competition upon submission of the full paper.
- Presented a valid student ID or similar certificate at the registration desk, upon their arrival.
Winner
For UACE2025, 15 students participated in the competition.
The winner of the Prof. Leif Bjørnø Award is Edward Clark from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, for the paper:
"Reinforcement Learning for Marine Path Planning."
